Course fully open

Yesterday (Thurs 16) 8 holes were opened for the first time in three weeks, and today the good news is the whole course (still with the exception of the 15th) opened, playing to temporary greens. Don’t forget to use the course report line if you’re travelling a distance and you suspect possible closure for any reason.

Rentruck make buggies possible for another year

Club member Richard Cotton of Rentruck has just agreed a new sponsorship deal for 2012 enabling the Club to bring back a fleet of six buggies for another year. The buggies are expected to arrive mid April, in time for the Saddleworth Am-Am and will stay with us until the end of October. This is excellent news for the Club and the members who benefit from their presence.

Ladcastle Road

Latest news is that the other half of Ladcastle Road now won’t open until the end of March. Apparently the job spec altered and more work was required. Unfortunately no-one has given me a definitive date yet.

Rules Evening

The Rules Evening scheduled for 27 March has unfortunately been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.  It is hoped that we can make other arrangements as soon as possible.

Housing Units and Newhey Carpets come up trumps

Local furnishings retailer Housing Units and carpet manufacturer Newhey Carpets, both companies owned by Club members, have just jointly agreed sponsorship for a major refurbishment of the Club’s main entrance, function room and rear toilet facilities. Housing Units’ own team of workmen will be carrying out the extensive improvements commencing Thursday 8 March and Newhey will be sending in the carpet fitters shortly after. It is hoped to have the work completed in time for Mother’s Day and special celebrations all round. We will also be planning a ‘Come and See’ buffet shortly after. Exciting.

County Cards

Just in - County Cards from the Lancashire County Golf Association. The £10 card, available from the General Manager’s office, entitles the holder to a reduced green fee (usually member’s guest rate) at participating clubs across the whole of England. Previously suitable only for use at the 72 clubs across Lancashire, the scheme has been extended by the EGU to cover most counties. A perfect gift for players who like to go visiting. Note: only available to playing members (male and female), over the age of 18, of a Lancashire affiliated golf club. This is golf’s response to 2 for 1. Further details are available from www.lancashiregolf.org

Course Report Line

A new ‘Course Report’ line will be up and running from Monday 16 January 2012. Call 07543 033375 for daily information about the status of the course, the use of temporary greens and access for buggies. It is hoped to have the information available within half an hour of daylight appearing, which currently means about 8.30am. If the message sounds the same as the previous day’s then the conditions will not have altered. The number will not be a means of communication with the greenstaff and any messages left on the machine will be automatically deleted. Please allow for the odd teething problem for a few days.

Golfers’ insurance

Did you know that individual golfer’s insurance policies, starting from as little as £22.50 a year, may reimburse your Club subscription if you are taken ill or need hospital treatment leading to a long lay-off from the game? It means you could get your money back and the Club doesn’t lose out. That’s on top of having your clubs covered and liability protection if you hit someone. We have some details in the office.
